The beauty of XC
Today i ran easily one of the hardest races i have ever run. the whole thing was practically uphill, and i wanted to walk the whole entire time. everyone on our team was having a rough race, and i even past one of our really good varsity girls. she was walking. and i ran best her and said; “you got this, the hardest part is over.” she started to run again, and i stuck with her for a little bit. at the end of the race, and i was walking back over to our team tent. i saw her crying and talking to her dad, so i left her alone, i would have gone and said good job a little later. and then, she comes over and hugs me, still crying, and says how i saved her during the race, how she wouldn’t have been able to finish otherwise. and then it hit me; the beauty of xc isn’t learning to love the sport or getting a pr every race. the beauty is how even if you aren’t close with people on your team, you all find a way to help each other out, to motivate each other to finish. that’s the beauty. XC IS A FAMILY.
