A coach can impact your entire life in ways you'd never imagine.
It was my summer going into my freshman year of high school. As I sat in my car after one of my softball practices I thought about all the wonderful things I've heard about our schools cross country team and our coach. I asked around about practices and decided to go to my first cross country practice. As I got out of my car and started to walk towards the team and coach I was so nervous. But, once I got to the circle the most bubbly and happiest women ( at 6am ) greeted me with the biggest smile and said "hi!". I never realized that that women would impact my life so much.
I've only ran for 2 years, but these past two years our coach has gotten to know every single person and understands us all. She has helped us in ways no one else can and made us all better runners. Not only has she made us better runners, but also better students and people. I started my freshman year with 25-24 minute races. My sophomore year I got 22's almost all season. I ended the top of my team. I would not have been able to do it without this coach and enjoy this sport so much.
This morning our coach called us into her room at school. She sat us down and immediately started crying. That's when I knew, something bad was about to happen. As we all sat there she continued on and told us that she will not be coaching next year. (Not because she didn't want to, but because of a reason we all understand). My heart dropped and I think everyone else's did as well. I had never met a coach that had this huge of an impact on my life and others. Yes, there were practices when I would complain and not want to do the workout for the day. But, because of this encouraging and amazing women I looked up to, along with many others, we bare through it and did it for her and the rest of the team. Never take your coach for granted. They are here to make us better runners and to encourage us to always do our best. No one will ever be able to fill the shoes of this passionate, encouraging, and amazing coach. Always thank your coaches, because you'll never realize when they could be gone.
