"I could never imagine myself being an athlete"
The thought of ever being an athlete never crossed my mind. Basically I could never imagine myself being an athlete. I would have to run with my skirt because of my personal religious convictions, so I thought it was impossible. But how did I end up doing Cross Country you may ask? Well one day my older sister came home from school saying that she wanted to do Cross Country because her friends said that another girl from another school district was racing in a skirt. So I (being the typical younger sibling) followed along with my sister and joined my seventh grade year.
That decision that I made was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only was everyone so accepting of me, they created a whole family atmosphere. I feel like I owe it all to my big sister because without her joining I wouldn't have joined. I would have not been part of this amazing family. My closest friendships are because of Cross Country.
Something that I thought was impossible turned into something possible. I made Varsity my freshman year and I'm proud to be a returning letterman this year. My times have been improving and I'm super excited for what the future holds.
Running with people that are super close to me makes every single run special. Breathing hard, feet pounding on the floor at a specific rhythm; it all creates an even more deeper connection especially when we are going through every turn and hill together. We all understand each other's pain and that's what helps us to encourage one another throughout runs.
The pain we may feel through the run may be temporary at times, but when we triumph in the end every small step you took while in pain will be worth it.
