Bigger than ourselves
From start to finish you preached about becoming a part of something bigger than ourselves. At first, I wasn’t sure what you meant. We were a cross country and T&F team, so as far as I was concerned we were supposed to run, eat, sleep, run some more and repeat on the daily. Then, the season went along and time passed by. Before I knew it, the season was over. The season was great, greatest in school history in fact. But that wasn’t what I was most thankful for.
Once the season had ended, I was asked what I thought about our performance and the overall season. My reply was that I had performed okay but the team performed exceptionally well and that the team's performance was more important to me. Without realizing it, I explained what you had been teaching us. I had become a part of something greater and bigger than myself. So coach, thank you for teaching us about life and allowing me to be a part of something. And thanks for teaching us about running as well.
